Mothers: Creative Women

18 03 2022

After International Women’s Day, we celebrate women and all they do for society. But unfortunately, many people still haven’t figured out what a woman is.

Modern cultures view women as equal to men, and it is not uncommon to find groups or societies that regard women as superior to men. Whereas previous cultures viewed women as inferior to men, having only the role of cooking, fetching, and carrying for the men.

Some people view women as wild temptresses and seducers of men on a personal level. While others see women as loving and kind comforters full of warmth and gentleness, they are mothers and housewives.

I believe that a society’s goodness can be gauged in part by the way it treats its female citizens. According to The economist, societies that mistreat women are more likely to live in poverty(1). Sadly, the brutal and repressive treatment of women is often standard in many communities and repeatedly documented. Yet to be a truly civilized society, men are expected to treat women with respect and deference, especially their wives and mothers.

Indeed, being a mother is one of the most awe-inspiring attributes of a woman, as she is the primary caregiver and nurturer of a new life from conception to death. As a result, mothers possess a wide range of virtues and skills comparable to those of the most accomplished athletes.

Studies found a link between women’s hard work and their success as mothers in a study of women in the United States. (2) Motherhood gives these women a reason to work hard because it allows them to provide for their families, whom they adore. Put another way, the love they have for their children and grandchildren drives them to put in the long hours needed to succeed. There is an inverse correlation between motherhood value and time spent on leisure pursuits. Motherhood is not a stumbling block for successful women but rather a stumbling block for pleasure-centered women, according to the modern feminist talking points. Nonetheless, it serves as a further incentive for most hard-working women to work hard and achieve their goals and dreams. Serena Williams won a grand slam just nine months after giving birth to her first child, and Adele, one of the most successful women in the music industry, credits the birth of her son for her return to music after a period of discouragement. (3)

Even in today’s developed countries, where it appears that the distinction between man and woman is being deliberately obfuscated, that distinction is not only present but glaring. In many cases, the woman complements the man physically and spiritually, but that’s another story. Mary, the Mother of God, is the best example of a woman to look up to to understand what it means to be a woman. She is a mother, the mother of Jesus, the son of God; she is also a woman. So she was uniquely blessed and became the ancestor of everyone, especially Christians.

To love and to be loved: Lady Bird (Review)

18 04 2021
Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf play a daughter and mother who clash and connect in Lady Bird.

Today being mother’s day, I would like to dedicate a piece not just to mothers but especially to any mother who is experiencing the searing pain of being a failure in their children’s eye

This was the case of young, Christine (Saoirse Ronan) in the movie Lady Bird (2017), her desires for parties, boys and prom lead to frequent clash with her poor mother. She selfishly wished for another mother, someone richer, more beautiful or elegant and even made up stories of being born in palatial house for her friends at school hoping they never find out.  She was also ashamed of her unemployed father and wouldn’t let him drop her off at her school gates so her friends wouldn’t to get to know him or see their battered car. However, in trying to correct her daughter, her mother often gave in to resentment and anger and the recrimination and bickering escalated to such extent that, one day, to her mother’s horror, Christine leaped out of a moving car they were driving in.

It is a wonderful film and I would recommend it any parent who desires to understand the myriads social pressures bearing down on minds of the young girls and perhaps learn how to listen for the unspoken words and never ever lose their temper. It is important to know that children in their teens are in a delicate place full of insecurities, hormonal desires and unformed ambition that needs proper channeling, and that they just don’t know how to deal with it and knowing who to trust at this point in life can save them a lot of pains, and by avoiding arguments and shouting parent can help them grow out of their shame and discomfort and overcome peer pressure much more quickly. Furthermore, an important part of parenting is correcting children when they step out of line, nevertheless, when corrections must be made, it I best done without bitterness and rancor that only serves to escalate tensions. As we all know, it has never been easy to raise children, but it is exponentially more difficult in our time with the corruptive influence of social media transferring negative norms difficult to shield children from but if parents are strong and hope in the God, things will work out in the end, no matter how long it takes. For some it might take years, many  broken hearts, abortions, and even drug addiction, nevertheless, if parents remain strong and steadfast in their love, it will work out in the end, as it did for Christine who in the discovers that the boyfriend she adores is a homosexual, and another who took her virginity cares nothing for her and that she is just one more among many he sleeps around with, she finally discerns that all that glitters isn’t  gold, and that true gold in life is to  love and to be loved in return and after one Saturday night of binge drinking and ending up in a hospital, she realizes that she is killing herself and returns to her senses and goes repentant to Church and begins to reciprocate her mother’s love.

Mom Loses Leg Jumping from 3rd Floor to Save Baby

25 11 2018

Sometimes people think that true love is when two people have flowing hormones and racing hearts when they are together. But the ancients say that true love is sacrifice and that to love is to suffer. And the Holy writ says that greater love has no man than he who lays down his life for another.

A most striking example of this true love happened in Massachusetts last week.

Christina Simoes, a 23-year-old mom from Massachusetts, was left unable to use her legs after jumping from her home – on the third floor of her building – to save her 18-month-old son from a raging fire.

According to aleteia. org, She and her son Camron, 18 months old, were trapped in her bedroom when a terrible fire broke out in their building. She could not wait for help to come; there was no time. She realized immediately that the only possible way out was through the window.

She took the child in her arms and jumped. The fall was more than 30 feet, so Christina tried to cushion the fall with her body, using her arms to protect her son. The little one was unharmed, but Christina broke several vertebrae and lost feeling in her legs immediately upon impact. With superhuman strength, in her injured condition, Christina managed to drag the little one out of reach of the burning debris that was beginning to fall. Shortly after, the two were found and taken to a nearby hospital.

Asked how she had the courage to do it, she affirmed that she could think of no better way to make sense of her life than to save her little one’s. She has given him life, for the second time.

“I kissed him, I told him I loved him and I jumped with him out the window.”
“I would do it again, of course. All the pain I have to go through now is worth it to see my son run around safe and sound,” she told interviewers.

This not only the best description of true love, but also a powerful pointer to how God’ s love is explicit in Jesus Christ who gave his life on the Cross to save mankind from eternal damnation.
