A man found a cocoon of the emperor moth and took it home to watch it emerge. One day a small opening appeared, and for several hours the moth struggled, but couldn’t seem to force its body past a certain point
Deciding something was wrong, the man took a pair of scissors and snipped the, remaining bit of cocoon. The moth emerged easily, its body large and swollen, the wings small and shrivelled.
He expected that in a few hours the wings would spread out in their natural beauty, but they did not. Instead of developing into a creature free to fly, the moth spent its life dragging around a swollen body and shrivelled wings.
The constricting cocoon and the struggle necessary to pass through the tiny opening are God’s way of forcing fluid from the body into the wings. The “merciful” snip was, in reality, cruel. Sometimes the struggle is exactly what we need. Parents who make life too easy for their children make life too hard for them as adult
But playing with my grandson, couldn’t avoid being buddy buddy with him. Lol
Chidren must have some ‘fear’ of the parents so they can be disciplined but To the point there still exists in them love for their parents. Sometimes being buddy buddy with chidren like being too familiarly friendly with them to the extent of anything goes, might not bring up respectful adults.
All of that is often very true. The old saying, “spare the rod, spoil the child”, is obviously not politically correct (we don’t tolerate the beating/caning of children anymore generally) But certainly, there is truth in its general meaning. We live in a world where a sense of ‘entitlement’ is all pervasive.
Maybe local. Attributed to a child born to rich parents. There is another, ‘a child who is spoiled eventually grow up naked’. Meaning no strength to face the hardships of the world, so he easily gives up when confronted with trials.
What you said about silver spoons is very interesting. Did you make that up on your own or is that a local ‘saying’?
There is a saying in Chinese. The grandparents sacrificed a great deal to promote wealth in the family, and by working hard The children helped to grow it, and the grandchildren squandered it. Commonly, it lasts only to three generations.
I saw kids who were born with a silver spoon grew up to eat with their hands. They got spoiled fed with all the things of this world. Became brats.
I agree. Kids off the rails? What’s your parenting style? Maybe it needs an overhaul.
Indeed: «Sometimes the struggle is exactly what we need.»
