Greta Scacchi became known as “Scorchy Scacchi” because of the number of nude scenes in which she appeared, but the actress says they are such an embarrassment that her teenage daughter has now changed her name.
“It’s not so much what I did in films, but how the material gets used later,” says Scacchi, who starred in Heat And Dust and White Mischief.
Referring to stills available on the internet, she says: “That’s the worst thing for me. That’s not how I was agreeing to play those scenes.”
She says of her daughter, Leila, 19, by her first husband, the American actor Vincent D’Onofrio: “When boys at my daughter’s school have been interested in her and have Googled her name, they discover what, out of context, looks very gratuitous, semi-pornographic.
“It’s humiliating and upsetting, and hurtful for her. We handled it, but she was upset and angry with me.”Scacchi was, nevertheless, prepared to bare all on stage again, in the West End play Bette and Joan. “It’s completely different,” she insists. “I am exposed and vulnerable. You can see that I haven’t done anything to try to pull things in or shape things up. I am as I am.”
